HIGHLIGHTS

Die Messmodule der USB-200 Serie bieten eine höhere Leistung als vergleichbare 12-Bit Messgeräte. Der Anschluss der Signale erfolgt über integrierte Schraubklemmen. Quick solution that works

This DAQ comes with the software needed to make it pretty much a plug and play device. I haven't tried using it with labview or other software but I imagine it can't be that difficult to set up. I have only used the analog channels to read pressure transducer voltages but It works great.

Great DAQ. Great Price. Should support Python wrapper, though.

If you need something simple, cheap and easy to get up and running, this is a great choice. MC needs to be careful though, as a lot of free or low cost solutions are starting to become available and this DAQ may suffer from the innovators dilemma. While I found an open source python wrapper and manipulated it for my needs, it would be great if MC supported python. The solution I cam up with works really well and python is what everyone is migrating to.

Overall very good but needs more generic access

We bought the instrument to collect data for neurophysiology. And it works fine using the basic software supplied, but there's very little if anything already made for use of the interface so that spike capture, measurement etc can be performed.

I am a bit confused with how the external pacer clock signal is used while acquiring 2 channels of data. I am using a USB-201. Using the onboard clock at 50kHz my signals looks fine. Repeating that with an external 50kHz clock, I seem to be sampling at the wrong speed. Is there more to the external clock than a simple swap? I ultimately need to synch to external rotating equipment, hence the use of the external clock to stay in angular synch with a shaft.

Hello - When using external clock on the USB-200 Series, one A/D sample is taken per rising edge coming in on AICKI. To sample 2 AI channels at 50 KHz each, a 100 KHz clock signal must be applied. A pressure sensor or transducer typically converts pressure into an analog voltage signal. The USB-201 supports a fixed +- 10 volt analog input range. So a compatible pressure sensor will support an output voltage somewhere in the +-10 volt range.

I have 8 analog signals generated from current and voltage sensors with range(2.5V+-0.625V). Normally, I am have used current and voltage probes directly to monitor these currents and voltages on oscilloscope(Not from sensors). Then I used the FFT property of oscilloscope. Currently, I don't have these probes due to their cost. Can I collect the data from these sensors and then manipulate them to be used in FFT analysis? Note: My switching frequency is just 6kHz, so 24kHz sampling frequency is fair enough. Regards,

The USB-201 supports 8 single ended +-10 volt input ranges. Voltage signals within a +-10 volt range are directly compatible. All other signals (current) will require signal conditioning of some sort. For data analysis, I would recommend our DASYLab BASIC graphical programming language. DASYLab BASIC has built in FFT analysis modules that would be perfect for your application.

Are the Analog and Digital grounds physically connected inside the USB-201 to the USB connector 5V GND pin? Does connecting all these grounds to an external ground improve noise immunity? The USB-201 does not support USB to field wiring isolation, therefore, the grounds are tied to the USB connectors ground pin. But if I may expand the scope of my answer in that the USB-201 uses a multi-layer PCB. For the purpose of better noise immunity each ground has its own plane but eventually come to a common point. It is not recommended that you mix your ground connections. The AGND is reserved for your analog input signals and the GND reserved for all other ground connections. Connecting all your grounds together could cause ground loops which could introduce noise and signal error. For detailed information on proper signal connections. I was under the impression that there was a basic acquisition software package that came with this unit so $99 was all that was needed to start acquiring data. When I added to cart, I was offered software options ranging from $99-$1,299. Does the unit come with any free software besides the programming interfaces that I would use to develop my own data acquisition package? I use Intel Fortran 90, can call C if it is in a DLL but it is not easy.

Hello Jafar2015, The USB-201 will not be able to supply the 11.5 vdc source required for your transmitter. The USB-201 is only capable of supplying a voltage source of 5 volt (100mA). You will need to provide an external excitation source for your transmitter.

Hello BigRockr - Thank you for your inquiry. When I have a discussion about a counter gate I think of an input that allows you to control when the counter is enabled and when it is disabled. In most cases it’s an external input that requires a TTL signal for control and when the gate is pulled high, the counter is enabled and when its pulled low the counter is disabled. Unfortunately, there is no gate control for the USB-201 counter. The event counter when loaded with a value of “0” will increment by one for each pulse it detects. The counter can be “zeroed” by calling the cLoad() function and reloading it with the value of “0”. Thank you for your inquiry. The USB-201 is a voltage based DAQ device and uses a 12 bit A/D converter. The USB-201 supports a fixed +- 10 volt input range. In order to read a current signal you would have to provide some signal conditioning to convert the current to a voltage. The other important factor is that the USB-201 uses a 12 bit A/D converter and would not be capable of providing enough resolution to read a 0.1 to 100 nA signal.

Digital inputs must be polled via your software program (there is no automatic state recognition by the USB-201 hardware). Once your program decides the state has changed, then it could take action. In summary, MCC does not offer software to perform this task.

Thank you for your inquiry. The USB-201 supports 8 analog input channels with an aggregate sample rate of 100K. The USB-201 also supports 8 digital I/O bits with a maximum update rate that can vary between 33 to 4000 port read/writes. With that said, DAQami only supports analog inputs and can sample all channels at the max sample rate of 100 kS/s divided by the number of channels. If you need to sample both analog and digital inputs then you can use TracerDAQ which is also a free software package offered by MCC. When using TracerDAQ you can sample all 8 analog inputs at the published maximum sample rate of 100 kS/s divided by the number of channels. However, when sampling the digital inputs by themselves or in combination with the analog inputs, the sample rate is reduced to 100 Hz for all inputs. To take advantage of the maximum sample rate for the analog inputs while sampling the digital I/O bits, you could use our Universal Library, ULx for NI LabVIEW, or our DASYLab graphical programming language.

Hello, can you tell whether it is possible to program the USB-204 such, that the ADC starts the sampling and data transfer process to MATLAB if and only if an external trigger event occurs? Each time an external digital trigger pulse arrives at the USB-204, the sampling process must be initiated for 5 ms. Afterwards the device should wait for the next trigger event to occur. You can use the “External Trigger” on the USB-204 to initiate the start of your ADC conversions. However, the USB-204 does not support a “Retrigger” option which you will need in order for the device to wait for the next trigger event to occur. Our USB-1208FS-Plus supports a trigger and a retrigger mode. On a separate note, current support for MATLAB is through their 32 (R2015). MATLAB is currently working on 64 bit (R2016) support. DAQami V3.0 traces suddenly stopped working with our USB-204. We have run InstaCal and everything passes, so we believe the USB-204 is ok. We have run TracerDAQ all channels display correct signals. We have uninstalled and re-installed DAQami. When we start a capture, everything seems to run except - no traces appear at all, not even a zero volt line for each channel. DAQami is being run under Windows 7 (with all updates). We have checked that duplicate config files are not present (see USB-204 not detected question). Perhaps DAQami is incompatible with recent Windows 7 updates? Any ideas what we can try next other than a complete Windows 7 re-install? thanks

What you describe is not a known issue. Does the bottom LED on the USB-204 flash during the acquisition? And does the log file contain valid readings? Be sure that one or more channels are active (check mark in box) for the acquisition, and that one or more active channels are present on the graph. When first launching DAQami, select new configuration and then automatic configuration, which will insure the above settings are correct. Does the '500ks/s' refer to the total sample rate of all the enabled channels? For example, if I'm getting data from two channels, the limit would be 250ks/s for each channel, correct? Yes, the max sample rate of 500kS/sec for the USB-204 is for all enabled channels. The example you give is correct. To calculate your sample rate you must divide the sample rate by the number of channels. Our analog scan function scans a range of A/D channels and stores the samples in an array.

Hi, I'm trying to use the USB-204 with Matlab 2014b 32 bits on windows 64bits. However I get an error "Failure to find requested data acquisition device: mcc." The device seems to be installed correctly on my PC though, as it works with the other Softwares provided by Measurement Computing.

When an application program does not find the DAQ device, but InstaCal does find it, the following 2 are the known causes: 1) Your hard drive may have multiple copies of the driver file named CBW32.DLL. Search the entire hard drive, including hidden folders, and delete all copies except the one in: C:\Program Files\Measurement Computing\DAQ. 2) Your hard drive may have multiple copies of CB.CFG due to Win7 O/S’s Virtual Store. Search the entire hard drive, including hidden folders. The valid file should be located in: C:\ProgramData\Measurement Computing\DAQ Windows may be put backup of the file in: C:\Users\YourUserAccountName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Measurement Computing\DAQ Delete all copies, and then re-run InstaCal. InstaCal will make a new CB.CFG. Confirm it is in (or move it to) the location it should be in.

The USB-201/204 Series are not HID devices, but are instead of the vendor-specific class. Two driver choices are offered by MCC, the Universal Library and DAQFlex. Both of these driver options have licenses to be utilized (embedded) inside other products.

Unfortunately, I2C communication is not possible using the USB-201-OEM DAQ device. The USB-201-OEM is only capable of reading in voltage based signals. We have done some testing with semiconductor temperature and humidity devices that output voltages. Please review the specifications for the LM35 (temp) and the HIH-4000 (humidity). Both devices output a mV signal based on the input value.

Thank you for your inquiry. The USB-202-OEM is capable of concurrent A/D and D/A operation when used with our software. However, Measurement Computing does not develop the MATLAB support that you see on our web page (http://www.mccdaq.com/daq-software/MATLAB-Support.aspx). MATLAB driver development is handled by the Mathworks themselves. Also the USB-202-OEM currently is not officially supported under MATLAB (we’re working with Mathworks to get support released under their Data Acquisition Toolbox in the near future). Would an alternative product similar to the USB-202 that does have MATLAB support work for your application? Hello Chris, The USB-204 is compatible with our legacy NI LabVIEW drivers but, unfortunately it only supports single ended inputs. Based on your requirements, our USB-1208HS would work with 4 differential inputs and an aggregate sample rate of 1 MS/sec. You can also consider a 16 bit DAQ device like our USB-1608GX which supports 8 differential inputs with an aggregate sample rate of 500 kS/sec.
